B & G's 7/24/09

Baseballs:

**John Verlander, Detroit Tigers- A complete game for John, he gave up 1 unearned run, he did walk 4 and struck out 4. But with this being a double header today, John gave his team and bullpen some much needed depth. John now has a 3.12 ERA winning his 11Th game.

**Aramis Ramirez, Chicago Cubs- Aramis was huge today, he went 4-5 at the plate, with 2 doubles and he hit his 6Th Home Run of the season, driving in 3 runs, giving him 23 RBIs. The Cubs will need the former 3rd baseman healthy and able to get back in the division race and today, he gave them that lift. Ramirez is now hitting .325.

**Carlos Guillen, Detroit Tigers- The Tigers took the 2Nd game of the double header, thanks in part to a walk with the bases loaded, but make no mistake about it, Carlos Guillen gave the Tigers a big lift. He went 2-3, including hitting his 1st Home Run of the season, a solo shot. Carlos has 7 RBIs and is hitting .216.

**Brad Penny, Boston Red Sox- Brad gave the Sox a very solid outing, throwing 6 1/3 innings, he gave up 1 run (0 earned), he didn't walk anyone and struck out 4. Brad now has a 4.71 ERA.

**Joba Chamberlain-Joba threw 7 strong innings and his offense made sure he got the win. He just gave up 1 run (1 earned), he walked 3 and struck out 6. Joba now has a 3.86 ERA and won his 6Th game of the season.

**Matt Holliday, St. Louis Cardinals- The Cardinals are the big winners so far in the trade sweepstakes, and tonight, he just arrived in Philadelphia and responded by going 4-5 with a double and he drove in his 55Th run of the season. Matt is now hitting .293.

**Evan Longoria, Tampa Bay Rays- Evan hit the game winning hit that drove in 2 runs, in all he finished the night 1-2 with 2 walks and he drove in 3 runs, giving him 75 RBIs. Evan is now hitting .274 on the season.

**Mat Latos, San Diego Padres- Mat earned his 1st Major League victory for the Padres tonight, he threw 5 2/3 innings, giving up 2 runs (2 earned), he walked 2 and struck out 5. Mat now has a 3.72 ERA.

**Mike Hampton, Houston Astros- Mike not only worked a solid game, but he also hit his 1st Home Run of the season, driving in 2 runs, giving him 6 RBIs. Mike is hitting .313. He did work 5 2/3 innings, giving up 4 runs (4 earned), he walked 4 and struck out 7. Mike now has a 4.74 ERA.

**Martin Prado, Atlanta Braves- Martin finished the night 2-5 with his 6Th Home Run of the season, driving in 4 runs. Martin is now hitting .326.

**Scott Feldman, Texas Rangers- Scott threw 8 shutout innings, he walked 3 and struck out 2. Scott won his 9Th game and he has a 3.59 ERA.

**Matt Cain, San Francisco Giants- Matt earned his 12Th win of the season, he threw 7 strong innings, giving up 1 run (1 earned), he walked 4 and struck out 5. Matt now has a 2.27 ERA.

**Aaron Laffey, Cleveland Indians- 7 scoreless innings for the Indians, he gave up just 3 hits, walked 3 and struck out 7. Aaron now has a 3.71 ERA.

**Garrett Jones, Pittsburgh Pirates- Garrett went 2-5 and hit his 10Th Home Run of the season, he drove in 2 runs, giving him 15 RBIs with Garrett hitting .342.

**Jhohn Lackey, Los Angeles Angles- John controlled 7 2/3 innings, giving up 2 runs (2 earned), he walked 2 and struck out 3. Lackey now has a 4.22 ERA.

**Josh Johnson, Florida Marlins- Josh threw 7 scoreless innings, he didn't walk anyone and struck out 4. Josh now has a 2.80 ERA and he won his 9Th game of the season.

Goofballs:

**White Sox defense- Ozzie must have been flooring because his team committed 3 errors, and even though they only gave up 1 unearned run, it's still sloppy play when you are tied with the team you are facing in the division. Octavio Dotel (1st), Jermaine Dye (4Th), and Alexi Ramirez (12Th) were the culprits.

**Danny Herrera & Jared Burton- Both relievers gave up a combined 4 runs in the 8Th inning to widen their deficit at the time. Danny gave up 2 runs (2 earned) in 2/3 of an inning and he now has a 2.97 ERA, and Burton gave up 2 runs (2 earned) in 1/3 of an inning, he carries a 5.70 ERA.

**Scott Linebrink, Chicago White Sox- Scott lost the game, he gave up a run (1 earned) in the 8Th inning, losing his 2Nd game of the year. He walked 1 and struck out 1, along with giving up 2 hits. Scott now has a 2.62 ERA.

**Orioles Offense- They were completely shut down by the Red Sox pitching tonight, scoring 1 run on just 7 hits. They had walked 1 time and struck out 7. They didn't give their starter, Brad Bergesen much of a chance to win.

**Jack Cust, Oakland Athletics- The entire Athletics lineup had a tough night, just coming up with 4 hits, but he struck out 3 times. Jack is now hitting .236 after going 0-4.

**J.A. Happ, Philadelphia Phillies- J.A. suffered his 1st loss of the season, he did give them 6 innings, but he gave up 5 runs (5 earned), he didn't walk anyone and struck out 6. Happ will learn from this and he now has a 2.97 ERA.

**Scott Downs, Toronto Blue Jays- Scott lost the game, giving up 2 runs (2 earned) in 1 inning, he walked 2 and didn't strike anyone out. Scott now has a 2.59 ERA.

**Nationals Defense- Committed 4 errors tonight, Josh Bard (4Th), Jason Bergman (2Nd), Adam Dunn (12Th), and Garrett Mock (1st) all contributed to 3 unearned runs to score.

**Johan Santana, New York Mets- Johan had an off night, he worked 6 2/3 innings, giving up 5 runs (5 earned), he walked 3 and struck out 3. Johan now has a 3.12 ERA.

**Prince Fielder, Milwaukee Brewers- Prince struck out 4 times tonight, he went 0-4 and is now hitting .309.

**Royals Offense- The Royals got shut out, only connected with 5 hits, they walked 3 times and struck out 3. The Royals are now in last place all by themselves.

**Rockies Offense- The Rockies scored 1 run, but only could muster 4 hits, walked 5 times and struck out 5 times. Tough night at Coors Field.

**Miguel Batista, Seattle Mariners- Batista gave up 5 runs (5 earned) in the 9Th inning, he walked 1, struck out 1, and now has a 4.12 ERA.

**Yusmeiro Petit, Arizona Diamondbacks- Yusmerio only lasted 4 1/3 innings, he gave up 6 runs (6 earned), he walked 1 and struck out 6. Petit now has a 7.68 ERA.

**Francisco Liriano, Minnesota Twins- Francisco was a bit off tonight, he threw 5 1/3 innings, giving up 6 runs ( 6earned), he walked 2, struck out 3, and gave up 3 Home Runs. Francisco now carries a 5.56 ERA.

**Dodgers Offense- Take out Andre Either's 3 hits, and the Dodger find a way to get 3 hits. Just a horrible night at Chavez Ravine. Need to come back tomorrow, ready to go.
