B & G's 8/12/09

Baseballs:

**Cory Sullivan, New York Mets- The new lead off hitter went 2-4 at the plate with 2 triples. He drove in his 5Th run, he is hitting .269 on the season.

**Juan Uribe, San Francisco Giants- Juan hit a walk off Home Run, his 5Th of the season to give the Giants a 4-2 win. Uribe now has 26 RBIs and he went 2-5 and is hitting .280.

**Josh Hamilton, Texas Rangers- Josh went 3-4 and drove in 2 runs to aid Tommy Hunter shutting out the Indians. He now has 35 RBIs and is hitting .248.

**Robinson Cano, New York Yankees- Cano got a walk off RBI, and with his 2 RBIs, he has 60 on the season. Cano finished up 2-5 and is hitting .317.

**Adam Larouche, Atlanta Braves- Adam went 2-3 with a walk and hit 2 Home Runs, he drove in 3 runs, giving him 50 RBIs and 16 Home Runs. Adam is hitting .259.

**Cliff Pennington, Oakland Athletics- Cliff went 3-3 with a walk and a double. He is hitting .326.

**Howie Kendrick, LA Angels- Howie hit a big 3 run Home Run to lift the Angels to a 6 run lead, his 7Th shot of the show. How, with his 3 runs now has 41 RBIs. Howie is now hitting .273.

**Hunter Pence, Houston Astros- Hunter went 2-5 with 2 Home Runs, his 15Th and 16Th of the season and he drove in a career high 6 runs, giving him 52 RBIs. Hunter is now hitting .291.

**Josh Beckett, Boston Red Sox- Josh threw 7 strong innings, giving up 2 runs (2 earned), he walked 1 and struck out 6. Beckett now has a 3.10 ERA, earning his Major League leading 14Th win.

**Phillies Offense- As a collective team, they scored 12 runs on 14 hits, 3 doubles, 2 triples, and 3 Home Runs. Just an overall good night that helped Pedro Martinez get his 1st win as a Phillie.

**Francisco Liriano, Minnesota Twins- 7 strong innings, giving up 1 run (1 earned), he walked 1 and struck out 8. Francisco won his 5Th game and now has a 5.39 ERA.

**Kevin Kouzmanoff, San Diego Padres- Kevin went 3-4 at the plate and he drove in 2 runs, giving him 63 RBIs. Kevin is now hitting .263.

**Chris Carpenter, St. Louis Cardinals- Chris threw 7 strong innings, giving up 2 runs (2 earned), he didn't walk anyone and struck out 10, lowering his ERA to 2.27 and won his 12Th game.

**Ubaldo Jimenez, Colorado Rockies- 8 scoreless innings, walking 4 and struck out 6. Jimenez won his 10Th game and he has a 3.47 ERA.

**Ken Griffey, Jr, Seattle Mariners- Griffey hit the walk off single to drive in the only run to win the game in the 14Th inning. Griffey now has 38 RBIs and is hitting .226.

Goofballs:

**Diamondbacks Defense- Stephen Drew (8Th) and Mark Reynolds (19Th) both made errors, costing the Mets to score 2 unearned runs off of them.

**Guillermo Mota, Los Angeles Dodgers- Gave up the walk off Home Run, giving up 2 runs (2 earned) in 1/3 of an inning. He walked 1 and now has a 3.72 ERA.

**Indians Offense- They were awful, having some bad at bats. 0 runs on only 6 hits, 0 walks and 8 strikeouts.

**Blue Jays Offense- 3 runs on 14 hits, giving them many chances to score more runs, but they couldn't get the job done, leaving 14 men on base.

**Sean Burnett, Washinton Nationals- Gave up 3 runs (3 earned) in 1 inning, he walked 2 and didn't strike anyone out. Sean now has a 3.12 ERA.

**Orioles Offense- 3 runs scored on 9 hits, 2 walks, and 4 strikeouts.

**Randy Choate, Tampa Bay Rays- Randy threw 1/3 of an inning, giving up 4 runs (4 earned), he walked 1 and didn't strike anyone out. Choate now has a 3.92 ERA.

**Ricky Nolasco, Florida Marlins- Ricky lasted 3 1/3 innings, giving up 10 runs (10 earned), he walked 2 and struck out 1. Ricky now has a 5.44 ERA.

**Tigers Offense- They scored 2 runs and only collected 3 hits, 1 walk and 10 strikeouts.

**Sean Marshall, Chicago Cubs- I could give this to Jeff Samardzja, who got tattooed in his 1st Major League start, but Sean's job is to go out and keep his team in the game. He didn't do it, he threw 3 1/3 innings, giving up 5 runs (5 earned), he walked 3 and struck out 4. Sean now has a 4.35 ERA and he gave up 2 Home Runs.

**Royals Offense- 1 run scored, on 4 hits, 1 walk, and 12 strikeouts.

**Todd Coffee, Milwaukee Brewers- Only lasted 2/3 of an inning, giving up 3 runs (3 earned), he walked 1 and didn't strike anyone out. Todd lost the game and now has a 2.61 ERA.

**Reds Offense- 2 runs on 9 hits, 1 walk, and 11 strikeouts. They had no answer for Carpenter or the Cardinals.

**Pirates Offense- They got shutout again, could only get 4 hits. In fact they walked more (5) than they had hits (4). Rough night for the Buckos.

**White Sox Offense- 0 runs in the game with 10 hits and 6 walks. They certainly had their chances in the game.

Around the MLB on Thursday...

The Brewers have claimed P Doug Davis but both teams say a deal is unlikely.

The Marlins have interest in P John Smoltz.

P Justin Duchscherer may Return Tuesday against the Yankees. That will be his first game of the season.

White Sox C A.J. Pierzynski wants to stay with the White Sox when his deal expires after next season.

The Nationals and first round pick number 1 overall Stephen Strasburg contract talks will go down to the wire.

The Indians and first round pick Alex Smith is seeking top 5 money and the Indians are worry of giving that to him.

The Royals offer top pick Aaron Crow 3 million only to hear he wants more money.

The White Sox acquired IF Andy Cannizaro from the Indians for cash. Cannizaro was assigned to Triple A.

Jayson Stark hears Andy Sonnanstine and Jeff Niemann were claimed on waivers and quickly pulled back by the Rays.
