Cards Sign P John Smoltz...

Update 1:30: John Smoltz officially signs with the Cardinals, right now the Cards are only paying 100K.

* Wednesday: John Smoltz will accept the Cardinals offer to be there fifth starter. He can sign with the Cards after he clears waivers at noon eastern today. The Cards will only have to pay 100K left on his contract.

* Jayson Stark says John Smoltz is "strongly leaning: towards signing with the Cardinals tomorrow. John Smoltz will clear waivers tomorrow and can sign with any team.

Baseballs:

**Adam Larouche, Atlanta Braves- Adam finished the afternoon 1-3 with a walk, a Home Run, his 17Th of the season. Adam drove in 3 runs, giving him 53 RBIs and he is now hitting .262.

**Vladimir Guerrero, LA Angels- Vlad went 2-4 with 2 Home Runs, he now has 10 on the season and he drove in 5 runs, giving him 31 on the year. Vlad is hitting .306.

**Garrett Jones, Pittsburgh Pirates- Garrett went 2-4 with a walk, he hit his 13Th Home Run of the season, driving in 2 runs, giving him 22 RBIs. Garrett is now hitting .297.

**Aaron Rowand, San Francisco Giants- Aaron went 4-5, including hitting his 10Th Home Run of the season, he drove in 2 runs, giving him 48 RBIs. Aaron is now hitting .273.

**Marlon Byrd, Texas Rangers- Marlon went 2-4 at the plate with a double and he drove in 3 runs, giving him 60 RBIs. Marlon is now hitting .282.

**Scott Podsednik, Chicago White Sox- Scott went 2-5, despite striking out 3 times, he drove in a run in the 8Th inning to give the White Sox a win. Scott drove in 2 runs with a double and he now has 36 RBIs with a .297 average.

**Kyle Banks, San Diego Padres- Kyle went 2-4 at the plate and hit a 3 run walk off Home Run, his 7Th of the season, with his 3 runs, he has 17 RBIs. Kyle is now hitting .252.

**Brett Tomko, Oakland Athletics- Brett made his Athletic debut, going 5 shutout innings against his former team, he walked 1, struck out 1 and he now has a 4.21 ERA.

**Chris Carpenter, St. Louis Cardinals- 8 strong innings against the Dodgers, winning his 13Th game, giving up 2 runs (2 earned), he walked 1 and struck out 8. Chris now has a 2.27 ERA.

Goofballs:

**Max Scherzer, Arizona Diamondbacks- Max committed an error that caused 6 unearned runs in the 3rd inning. He worked 5 innings, giving up 9 runs (3 earned), he walked 1 and struck out 7. Max now has a 4.00 ERA, losing his 7Th game.

**Cla Meredith, Baltimore Orioles- Cla threw 1 1/3 innings, giving up 3 runs (3 earned), he walked 2 and struck out 2. Meredith now has a 4.83 ERA.

**Carlos Villanueva, Milwaukee Brewers- Carlos only threw 4 innings, giving up 6 runs (6 earned), he walked 1, struck out 2, and now has 10 losses. Carlos has a 6.25 ERA.

**Livan Hernandez, New York Mets- Livan threw 5 1/3 innings, giving up 6 runs (6 earned), he walked 1 and struck out 1, Livan now has a 5.47 ERA.

**Francisco Liriano, Minnesota Twins- Liriano lasted 2 innings, giving up 7 runs (7 earned), he walked 2, and struck out 1. Liriano now has a 5.80 ERA, losing his 12Th game.

**Roman Colon, Kansas City Royals- Colon threw 1/3 of an inning, giving up 1 run (1 earned), he walked 1 and didn't strike anyone out. Colon lost the game and now has a 6.23 ERA.

**Kevin Gregg, Chicago Cubs- Blew his 6Th save and lost his 5Th game of the year. Kevin threw 2/3 of an inning, giving up 4 runs (4 earned), he walked 2 and didn't strike anyone out. Gregg now has a 4.47 ERA.

**Yankees Offense- They were shutout on just 7 hits and 2 walks. Had no answers for Oakland's pitching.

**Dodgers Offense- 2 runs on 5 hits, 1 walk, and 8 strikeouts.

4 year major league deal, 7.5 million bonus, 7.6 million in salaries including 400,000 for the remainder of the 2009 season, 15.1 million total guaranteed. Plus he gets incentives based on big league award voting.

Dustin Ackley:

5 year major league deal, 6 million bonus, 7.6 million in salaries including 400,00 for the remainder of the 2009 season, 2.5 million possible in salaries depending on how quick he reaches the majors, $7.5 million total guaranteed.
