B & G's 9/6/09

Baseballs:

**Michael Brantley, Cleveland Indians- Michael had 2 more hits today, including driving in the winning run and scoring the insurance run. He now has 2 RBIs and is hitting .391.

**Daniel Murphy, New York Mets- Murphy went 3-4 at the plate, including a Home Run, his 9Th Home Run of the season, he drove in 4 runs, giving him 53 RBIs and he had a triple. Daniel is now hitting .259 on the year.

**Micah Owings, Cincinnati Reds- Micah threw 2 scoreless innings, winning his 7Th game of the year. But the story of the day was with the bases loaded, he got hit by a pitch to drive in his 10Th run of the year. Micah appeared to be okay, he left the game with some help, but he gave the thumbs up, which is good to hear.

**Ryan Zimmerman, Washington Nationals- Ryan hit a walk off Home Run, a 2 run shot, his 28Th of the year. Ryan finished off 1-5 and now has 93 RBIs. He is hitting .300.

**Randy Ruiz, Toronto Blue Jays- Randy earlier drove in a run in the 7Th inning and in his next at bat, he was hit in the mouth by the baseball. Randy drove in 2 runs, and the good news is he appears to be okay. Ruiz has 11 RBIs and after his 1-3 day, he is hitting .296.

**Prince Fielder, Milwaukee Brewers- Prince ended the game with a towering shot, his 37Th of the season and he now has 123 RBIs. He also ended a triple play earlier in the game and even had a creative celebration that might rub the Giants the wrong way, when he touched home plate, he stomped there and his teammates all fell down like they were bowling pins. That might not have been a smart idea because next time he plays the Giants, I am sure the Giants will remember that.

**Bobby Abreau, LA Angels- Bobby finished the day 2-3 with 2 walks and he drove in 3 runs, giving him 89 RBIs on the season. Bobby is now hitting .297.

**Seth Smith, Colorado Rockies- Seth finished the day 2-4 with a walk and hit 2 Home Runs, giving him 15 on the season. He drove in 5 runs, 48 RBIs and he is now hitting .317.

**Kevin Gregg, Chicago Cubs- Kevin gave up 2 more runs today, (2 earned), he threw 2/3 of an inning, walked 1 and struck out 1. Gregg now has a 4.57 ERA.

**Braves Offense- They only had 5 hits the entire game, scored 2 runs, walked 4 times, and struck out 13 times.

**Leo Nunez, Florida Marlins- Blew the save in the 9Th inning and lost the game when he gave up 2 Home Runs, one to Zimmerman and the other to Willie Harris. Leo gave up 3 runs (3 earned) in 0 innings, he lost his 5Th game and now has a 4.25 ERA.

**Yankees Defense- 4 errors committed by the Yankees didn't help their cause today. Robinson Cano (10Th), Jerry Hairston Jr (12Th), Ramiro Pena (5Th), and Mark Teixeira (3rd) all did the errors.

**Derek Holland, Texas Rangers- Derek threw 3 2/3 innings, giving up 6 runs (6 earned), he walked 3, and struck out 6. Derek lost his 10Th game and now has a 5.93 ERA.

**Ryan Franklin, St. Louis Cardinals- Had a rare blown save and lost his 2Nd game. He threw 1/3 of an inning, giving up 2 runs (2 earned), Ryan now has a 1.67 ERA.

**Russ Springer, Tampa Bay Rays- Russ wound up giving up the Home Run and lost the game. He didn't retire anyone, giving up 2 runs (2 earned) and now has a 4.05 ERA.

**White Sox Offense- They had no answers today, scoring just 1 run on 6 hits, they walked 2 times, and struck out 9 times, leaving 6 men on base.

**Phillies Offense- 3 runs on 9 hits, leaving 7 men on base. No clutch hitting to put them over the top.

**Giants Offense- They left 11 men on base, 1 run on 10 hits.

**Luke Hochevar, Kansas City Royals- Another bad outing for Luke as he finished the day throwing 3 2/3 innings, giving up 7 runs (7 earned), he walked 2, struck out 2 and now has a 6.10 ERA with 9 losses.

**Daniel Cabrera, Arizona Diamondbacks- As bad as Yusmeiro Petit was, Daniel Cabrera was worst, he gave up 5 runs (5 earned) in 0 innings. He walked 2, didn't strike anyone out and now has a 6.98 ERA.

**Shawn Kelley, Seattle Mariners- Lost the game for the Mariners, he gave up 4 runs (4 earned) in 2 innings, he didn't walk anyone, struck out 2. Shawn now has a 4.82 ERA, losing his 2Nd game of the season.

**Dodgers Offense- They are struggling, no question about that, and it's not their pitching that is losing games for them, but rather their offense. 3 runs on 8 hits, 3 walks, 7 strikeouts, and they left 9 men on base. They certainly had chances to tie the game, but couldn't get the job done.
