B & G's 8/7/09

Baseballs:

**Josh Willingham, Washington Nationals- Josh once again drove in the winning runs for the Nationals in the 7Th inning, he finished the night 3-4 and drove in 2 runs, giving him 44 RBIs. Josh is now hitting .309.

**Alex Rodriguez, New York Yankees- A-Rod showed up in the 15Th inning of a 0-0 score and pounced a ball out of the ballpark for a walk off 2 run Home Run, his 20Th of the season and with the 2 RBIs, he has 62 on the year. After a 2-7 evening, Alex is hitting .261.

**Alex Aliva, Detroit Tigers- Alex had a second straight good day at the plate, he went 2-4 and hit his 1st Major League Home Run, driving in 4 runs after his 2-4 evening. Aliva now has 5 RBIs and is hitting .500.

**Matt Holliday, St. Louis Cardinals- Matt hit a key Home Run to keep the Cardinals in the game, he finished up 2-3 with a walk, giving him 15 Home Runs, driving in 2 runs, giving him 67 RBIs. Matt is hitting .308 on the season.

**Ricky Nolasco, Florida Marlins- 7 strong innings for the Marlins, giving up 2 runs (2 earned), he walked 2 and struck out 7, winning his 8Th game and now has a 4.86 ERA.

**Jason Berken, Baltimore Orioles- Jason won just his 2Nd game, his first in 9 straight losses, he threw 6 innings, giving up 3 runs (3earned), walking 2 and struck out 6. Jason now has a 6.72 ERA.

**Jeremy Sowers, Cleveland Indians- 7 strong inning for the young left hander, he gave up 2 runs (2 earned), walked 2 and struck out 3. Jeremy now has a 4.75 ERA, winning his 4Th game of the season.

**Jason Michaels, Houston Astros- Jason hit 2 Home Runs, giving him 3 on the season, he drove in 4 runs, he now has 13 RBIs. After a 2-3 evening, Jason is hitting .211.

**Cliff Penington, Oakland Athletics- Cliff went 3-4 at the plate with 2 doubles and 2 RBIs, giving him 4 on the season and Pennington is now hitting .333.

**Ubaldo Jimenez, Colorado Rockies- Ubaldo threw 6 2/3 innings, giving up 2 runs (1 earned), he did walk 5 and strike out 6. But he picks up his 9Th win and now has a 3.65 ERA.

**Everth Cabrera, San Diego Padres- Hit a walk off grand slam Home Run, his 2Nd of the season and now with 4 RBIs, he has 19 and is hitting .268 after his 1-4 night.

**Omar Vizquel, Texas Rangers- Omar had a good night, going 4-6 with his 1st Home Run of the season, driving in 3 runs, giving him 11 on the year and he is now hitting .294.

**Ryan Langerhans, Seattle Mariners- Ryan hit a walk off Home Run, his 1st career, 2Nd of the season. It was a 2 run shot, giving him 7 RBIs, Ryan went 1-2 and is now hitting .239.

**Ryan Church, Atlanta Braves- Ryan finished off the night 3-5, including hitting a big 3 run Home Run in the 12Th inning giving the Braves the lead and win. Ryan has 4 Home Runs with 30 RBIs and is hitting .283 on the season.

**Wladimir Balentien, Cincinnati Reds- Balentien went 2-3 at the plate with 2 walks and 1 RBI, giving him 16 on the season. Wlvadimir is now hitting .219.

Goofballs:

**Juan Gutierrez, Arizona Diamondbacks- Juan threw 1 inning, giving up 2 runs (2 earned), he walked 1 and didn't strike anyone out. Juan lost his 3rd game and now has a 4.53 ERA.

**Junichi Tazawa- Came in for his Major League debut and he winds up losing the game, he threw 1 2/3 innings, giving up 2 runs (2 earned), he didn't walk anyone and struck out 2. Tazawa now has a 10.80 and the Red Sox must win the next 2 games against first place Yankees.

**Anthony Swarzak, Minnesota Twins- Anthony didn't give his team much of a chance to win, he threw 1+ inning, giving up 7 runs (7 earned), he didn't walk anyone and struck out 1, while also giving up 2 Home Runs. Anthony lost his 5Th game and has a 5.44 ERA.

**Jose Ascanio, Pittsburgh Pirates- Lost the ballgame, threw 2 innings, giving up 2 runs (2 earned), he didn't walk anyone and struck out 1. Jose lost his 2Nd game and has a 4.15 ERA.

**Phillies Offense- They could only score 2 runs and get 4 hits, they walked 4, struck out 9 and left 6 men on base.

**Brandon League, Toronto Blue Jays- His team was down by 1 run, but he gave up 3 runs (3 earned) in the 8Th inning and he now has a 4.86 ERA.

**White Sox Offense- 2 runs on only 7 hits won't get you many wins. The Sox left 9 men on base.

Brewers Offense- 3 runs on 8 hits, but 12 strikeouts. They are in a bad swing right now when they are still trying to contend.

**Brian Bannister, Kansas City Royals- Brian lasted only 4 innings, giving up 7 runs (7 earned), he walked 3 and struck out 1. Brian now has a 3.97 ERA and lost his 8Th game of the season.

**Cubs Offense- They had more walks (6) than hits (5) so if you score only 2 runs, you have no chance to win.

**Francisco Rodriguez, New York Mets- Lost the game by giving up a walk off grand slam and he blew a save, his 5Th of the season by giving up 5 runs (5 earned) in 0 innings, he walked 3 and now has a 3.31 ERA, losing his 3rd game of the year.

**Joe Saunders, LA Angels- Joe lasted just 1 2/3 innings, giving up 5 runs (5 earned), he walked 1 and didn't strike anyone out. Joe now has a 5.33 ERA and he lost his 7Th game.

**J.P. Howell, Tampa Bay Rays- Howell gave up the Home Run and lost his 3rd game of the season. He worked 1 1/3 innings, giving up 2 runs (2 earned), he walked 1 and struck out 1. Howell now has a 2.14 ERA.

**Romon Troncoso, Los Angeles Dodgers- Romon lost his 1st game of the season, he threw 1/3 of an inning, giving up 2 runs (2 earned), he now has a 2.21 ERA.

**Giants Defense- 5 errors in the game, including some in the clutch costing the Giants the game. Bengie Molina (4Th), Edgard Renteria committed 2 (12Th), Aaron Rowland (2Nd), and Pablo Sandoval (10Th). They have to do better than this to win ball games.
