B & G's 9/1/09

Baseballs:

**Chris Davis, Texas Rangers-Game One- Chris had a good evening, he went 3-4 and drove in 2 runs, giving him 40 RBIs. Chris is now hitting .214.

**Aubrey Huff, Detroit Tigers- Aubrey finished the night 2-2 with 2 walks and he drove in 3 runs, giving him 76 RBIs. Aubrey is now hitting .245.

**Cole Hamels, Philadelphia Phillies- Cole threw a complete game shutout, 1 2 hitter, he walked 1 and struck out 9. Cole won his 8Th game of the year and he now has a 4.26 ERA.

**Tim Hudson, Atlanta Braves- Tim came back to the Major Leagues in over a year, battling Tommy John surgery and he was effective, going 5 1/3 innings, giving up 2 runs (2 earned), he walked 3 and struck out 5. Hudson now has a 3.38 ERA.

**Craig Tatum, Cincinnati Reds- Craig finished the night 2-4, driving in 4 runs, giving him 6 RBIs. Craig is now hitting .148.

**Jorge Posada, New York Yankees- Jorge went 2-4 with a walk, he hit 2 Home Runs, giving him 19 on the season, he drove in 3 runs, giving him 66 RBIs and now Jorge is hitting .280.

**Kevin Youkilis, Boston Red Sox- Kevin finished the night 2-4 and hit his 23rd Home Run of the season, driving in 2 runs, giving him 79 RBIs. Youkilis is now hitting .310.

**Randy Wells, Chicago Cubs- Randy became the first rookie Pitcher since Kerry Wood to win 10 games or more, and he did it by completely being in control. Wood threw 6 2/3 innings, giving up 1 run (0 earned), he walked 2 and struck out 4. Randy now has a 2.90 ERA, winning his 10Th game.

**Matt Holliday, St. Louis Cardinals- Matt finished the night 2-4 with his 20Th Home Run of the season, driving in 3 runs, giving him 89 RBIs. Matt is now hitting .310.

**Jose Morales, Minnesota Twins- Jose hit the walk off single to drive in his 5Th run of the year and he now is hitting .353.

**Josh Hamilton, Texas Rangers, Game Two- Josh finished the night 2-4 with 2 Home Runs, he now has 10 on the year. he drove in 3 runs, giving him 49 RBIs. Josh is now hitting .269.

**Todd Helton, Colorado Rockies- Todd went 2-4 and hit his 14Th Home Run of the season, he drove in 3 runs, giving him 73 RBIs. Helton is now hitting .327.

**Clayton Richard, San Diego Padres- Clayton threw 6 2/3 innings, giving up 1 run (1 earned), he walked 2, struck out 6 and now has a 4.61 ERA, winning his 8Th game.

**Alberto Callaspo, Kansas City Royals- Alberto went 2-4 and drove in 2 runs, including hitting the leading runs to win the game. Callaspo now has 52 RBIs and is hitting .294.

**Doug Fister, Seattle Mariners- Doug threw 7 1/3 innings, giving up 1 run (1 earned), he walked 2, struck out 2 and Doug won his 2Nd game and now has a 2.94 ERA.

**Matt Kemp, Los Angeles Dodgers- Matt went 2-3 with a walk and hit his 23rd Home Run of the season, he drove in his 87Th run too and is hitting .316.

Goofballs:

**Blue Jays Defense- Not a very well played game, 3 errors causing 1 unearned run to score. John McDonald committed his 3rd error of the season and Aaron Hill committed 2 errors, giving him 6 on the year.

**Carlos Carrasco, Cleveland Indians- Not a good Major League debut, he lasted 3 innings, giving up 6 runs (6 earned), he walked 3, struck out 3, and now has given up 3 Home Runs. Carlos now has a 18.00 ERA.

**Giants Offense- A 2 hitter, putting Hamels in complete control the entire game.

**Marlins Offense- Had no answers for Braves pitching. 3 runs on 8 hits, leaving 6 men on base and striking out 10 times.

**Charlie Morton, Pittsburgh Pirates- Charlie worked 5 innings, giving up 6 runs (6 earned), he walked 4, struck out 1 and now has a 5.43 ERA, losing his 7Th game of the season.

**Chris Ray, Baltimore Orioles- Chris blew the lead for the Orioles, he threw 1/3 of an inning, giving up 3 runs (3 earned), he didn't walk anyone and struck out 1, while also giving up 2 Home Runs. Chris now has a 6.75 ERA.

**Rays Defense- This team is starting to slip more and more, they sort of had to sweep the Sox just to get back into the race. But what hurt them was their defense, 3 errors that allowed 3 unearned runs to score. Carl Crawford (4Th), Akinori Iwamura (6Th), and Carlos Pena (10Th) were the culprits. Manager Joe Madden is getting more gray hairs as we speak.

**Astros Offense- They scored 1 run on 8 hits, they have walked 3 and struck out 8. The Astros left 8 men on base.

**David Weathers, Milwaukee Brewers- David lost his 5Th game, threw 2/3 of an inning, giving up 2 runs (2 earned), he walked 1, and didn't strike anyone out. Weathers now has a 3.58 ERA.

**Matt Thornton, Chicago White Sox- Matt threw 1/3 of an inning, giving up 1 run (1 earned), he didn't walk anyone and struck out 1. Matt has a 2.72 ERA.

**Blue Jays Offense, Game Two- 2 runs on 6 hits, they walked 4 times and struck out 5.
**Mike Pelfrey, New York Mets- Only lasted 4 inning, giving up 6 runs (5 earned), he walked 5, struck out 4 and he has a 5.03 ERA, losing his 10Th game of the year.

**Josh Willingham, Washington Nationals- Struck out 4 times.

**Jay Marshall, Oakland Athletics- Jay lost his 2Nd game, did not retire anyone and gave up 2 runs (2 earned). Jay now has a 14.73 ERA.

**Angels Offense- 1 run on 6 hits, they walked 2 times, struck out 3 and left 4 men on base.

**Mark Reynolds, Arizona Diamondbacks- Mark went 0-5 and struck out 3 times. He is hitting .275 on the year.

PTBNL's in a Couple Deals, Other Notes...

The Cardinals sign closer Ryan Franklin through 2011, lefty reliever Trever Mller through 2010 with vesting option for 2011.

The Rays acquire 2B Sean Rodriguez as the PTBNL in the Scott Kazmir trade from the Angels.

Rodriguez has split time from the majors and Triple A and is a good utility guy.

The Diamondbacks acquire pitcher Kevin Mulvey as the PTBNL in the Joe Rauch trade from the Twins.

Kevin Mulvey was a player the Twins got in the Johnan Santana trade.

Baseballs:

**Carlos Pena, Tampa Bay Rays- Carlos went 3-5 and hit his 38Th Home Run of the season, driving in 4 runs, giving him 96 RBIs and Pena is now hitting .223.

**Drew Stubbs, Cincinnati Reds- Game One- Drew finished the first game 2-4 and he set the tone with a lead off Home Run, his 2Nd of the season, and he now has 4 RBIs. Drew is hitting .232.

**Brandon Phillips, Cincinnati Reds- Game Two- Brandon finished the night 3-4 and he hit his 18Th Home Run of the year, drove in 2 runs, giving him 81 RBIs. Brandon is now hitting .268.

**Andy Pettitte, New York Yankees- Andy took a no hitter into the 7Th inning. He threw 8 strong innings, giving up 1 run (1 earned), he didn't walk anyone and struck out 8. Andy now has a 4.03 ERA, winning his 12Th game.

**Kenshin Kawakimi, Atlanta Braves- 6 strong innings, giving up 1 run (1 earned), he didn't walk anyone and struck out 5. Kenshin now has a 3.97 ERA.

**Carlos Lee, Houston Astros- Carlos finished the night 2-4, he hit his 22Nd Home Run of the season, drove in 4 runs, giving him 85 RBIs, and he is now hitting .308.

**Nick Blackburn, Minnesota Twins- 7 strong innings, gaining ground on the Tigers. He gave up 1 run (1 earned), he did not walk anyone and struck out 7. Nick now has a 4.16 ERA and he won his 9Th game of the year.

**Adam Lind, Toronto Blue Jays- Adam went 3-5 and hit 2 Home Runs, giving him 27 on the year. He drove in 8 runs, giving him 89 RBIs. Adam is now hitting .303.

**Tim Stauffer, San Diego Padres- Tim threw 6 2/3 innings, giving up 1 run (1 earned), he walked 3, struck out 5 and won his 3rd game. Tim now has a 3.76 ERA.

**Rajai Davis, Oakland Athletics- Davis finished the evening 2-4 and drove in 2 runs, giving him 31 RBIs. Rajai also stole his 30Th base and is now hitting .293.

**Vladimir Guerrero, LA Angels- Guerrero went 3-4 with 2 Home Runs, giving him 13 on the year. He drove in 4 runs, giving him 38 RBIs. He led the Angels' charge against the Mariners. Vladdy is now hitting .307.

**Rusty Ryal, Arizona Diamondbacks- Rusty went 1-5 but that hit was his 2Nd Home Run of the season, a solo shot giving the D-Backs the lead. Rusty has 2 RBIs and is hitting .290.

Goofballs:

**Jarrod Washburn, Detroit Tigers- Jarrod went 5 2/3 innings, giving up 8 runs (8 earned), he walked 3, struck out 2, and he gave up 2 Home Runs. Washburn now has a 3.55 ERA.

**Jesse Chavez, Pittsburgh Pirates- Game One- Threw the wild pitch that allowed the winning run to score. He three 2/3 of an inning, giving up 1 run (1 earned), he lost his 4Th game and now has a 3.90 ERA.

**Pirates Offense- Game Two- No clutch hitting tonight, they scored 3 runs, 8 hits, walked 1 time, and struck out 9. They left 8 men on base.

**Orioles Offense- 1 run on 3 hits at the plate, they walked 1 time and struck out 9.

**Hanley Ramirez, Florida Marlins- Hanley struck out 3 times and went 0-4, hitting .356.

**Rich Harden, Chicago Cubs- Rich lasted 5 innings, giving up 5 runs (5 earned), he walked an amazing 6 men and struck out 9. Rich lost his 8Th game and he now has a 4.19 ERA.

**Chicago White Sox- I guess they are throwing in the towel this season, they just traded Jim Thome to the Los Angeles Dodgers and unloaded Jose Contreras to the Rockies. The Sox offense didn't help matters, they scored 1 run and struck out 10 times.

**Derek Holland, Texas Rangers- Derek lasted 3 innings, giving up 10 runs (10 earned), he walked 3, and struck out 1. Derek lost his 9Th game and now has a 5.63 ERA.

**Washington Nationals Offense- No clutch hitting, 3 runs on 8 hits, 3 walks, and 7 strikeouts, leaving 8 men on base.

**Luke Hochever, Kansas City Royals- Luke threw 5 1/3 innings, giving up 7 runs (6 earned), he walked 4, struck out 5 and he now has a 5.74 ERA, losing his 8Th game.

**Luke French, Seattle Mariners- Threw 5 innings, giving up 7 runs (7 earned), he didn't walk anyone, struck out 3 and now has a 4.62 ERA, losing his 4Th game.

**Dodgers Offense- 3 runs on just 5 hits, they walked 2 times and struck out 4. The Dodgers left 4 men on base.

Jon Garland Might be on the Move...

Update 9:17: Jon Garland to the Rockies, is most likely not going to happen due to the asking price the Diamondbacks want for him. The Rockies said they will take on the contract but that was not enough. The Dodgers are still in the running for Garland.

Update 9:03: Buster Olney is reporting the Yankees are not that serious about Jon Garland.

Jon Heyman is reporting that the Yankees and the Rockies are the 2 teams that inquired about pitcher Jon Garland. He also states that the Rockies are the favorites of the Yankees but will most likely stay in Arizona.I will keep you updated.

Marlins DFA Luis Ayala...

Tonight the Marlins DFA relief pitcher Luis Ayala to make room for 1 of there top prospects OF Cameron Maybin on the 40 man roster.

Ayala had a era in the 11 for the Marlins in 10 games this year.

Yanks Acquire Freddy Guzman

The Yankees have acquired speedy outfielder Freddy Guzman from the Orioles for the famous PTBNL.

Teams Interersted in Cameron

There has been interest in Brewers center-fielder Mike Cameron, and Heyman believes that the Tigers may be one of the teams that checked in on him. Yo may remember that Cameron cleared trade waivers last week.

Cubs pitchers Rich Harden and Aaron Heilman are staying put and not getting traded.

The Royals extend GM Dayton Moore though 2014.

The Giants are strongly pursuing pitcher Brad Penny and are the favorites to land him.

**Matt Kemp,Los Angeles Dodgers- Matt finished the day 1-4 with a walk and a sacrifice fly, he hit his 21st Home Run to give the Dodgers the lead in the 12Th inning, he drove in 2 runs, which gives him 85 RBIs. He is hitting .315.

**Mark Teixeira, New York Yankees- Mark went 1-3 with a sacrifice fly, he hit his 32Nd Home Run, drove in 4 runs, giving him 101 RBIs and is now hitting .284.

**Placido Polanco, Detroit Tigers- Polanco went 1-4 and hit a big 3 run Home Run to give the Tigers the lead in the 8Th inning. It's his 8Th shot of the year and now he has 58 RBIs and is hitting .268.

**Brian Matusz, Baltimore Orioles- The young rookie dominated Indians hitting, throwing 7 innings, giving up 1 run (1 earned), he walked 1, and struck out 8. Brian now has a 5.28 ERA with 3 wins.

**Reds Offense- Even in a 12 inning game, they only had 2 runs, 8 hits, 4 walks, and 20 strikeouts. Joey Votto struck out 4 times himself.

**Randy Williams, Chicago White Sox- Randy threw 1/3 of an inning, giving up 4 runs (4 earned), he walked 2, didn't strike anyone out and now has a 7.84 ERA.

**Grant Balfour, Tampa Bay Rays- Lost his 3rd game, giving up 1 inning, surrendering 2 runs (2 earned), he walked 1, struck out 1 and now has a 4.45 ERA.

**Indians Offense- 2 runs on only 7 hits, they walked 2 times and struck out 9, leaving 6 men on base.

**Blue Jays Offense- Were shutout, only getting 5 hits, they left 4 men on base.

**Pirates Offense- 1 run on 9 hits, they walked 4 and struck out 3. The Pirates left 8 men on base.

**Nationals Offense- 1 run on 4 hits, they walked 5, and struck out 10.

**Carlos Zambrano, Chicago Cubs- Carlos threw 3 1/3 innings, giving up 11 hits, 4 runs (3 earned), he didn't walk anyone and struck out 3. Carlos lost for the 6Th time and now has a 3.91 ERA, committed his 3rd error of the season.

**C.J. Wilson, Texas Rangers- Wilson blew the lead, throwing 1 inning, giving up 3 runs (3 earned), he walked 1 and struck out 1. C.J. now has a 3.30 ERA, losing his 6Th game.

**Jay Marshall, Oakland Athletics- Jay gave up 5 runs (5 earned) in 1 2/3 innings. Marshall now has a 12.27 ERA.

**Juan Rincon, Colorado Rockies- Rincon didn't retire anyone, he gave up 3 runs (3 earned), he walked 1 and didn't strike anyone out. Juan now has a 6.28 ERA.

**Astros Offense- 3 runs on 7 hits, 2 walks, and 8 strikeouts, leaving 6 men on base.

**Mariners Offense- Only 2 base runners reach base, so they had no answers for Zack Greinke.

**Braves Offense- 2 runs on 5 hits, 4 walks, and 8 strikeouts, leaving 6 men on base. They couldn't get that big clutch hit to change the game.

Rich Harden Rumors

Some believe that the Cubs will trade Rich Harden to the Twins for prospects, as Phil Rodgers explains:
"The guess here, is that Twins GM Bill Smith is going to wake up on Monday, consider how catchable the Detroit Tigers remain, and pay the price."
The twins stand 4.5 games out of the Central, while the Cubs are still in it at 5.5 games back of the wildcard with only 4 back in the loss column.

**Sergio Mitre, New York Yankees- Mitre threw a 1 hitter for 6 1/3 innings, his team gave him some runs to work with, but he also was working it. He walked 1 and struck out 2, now has a 5.65 ERA with 3 wins.

**Jake Fox, Chicago Cubs- Jake went 2-4 and hit his 10Th Home Run of the season, driving in 5 runs, giving him 39 RBIs. Jake is now hitting .300

**Jeff Weaver, Los Angeles Dodgers- Jeff came in when Charlie Haeger wasn't effective, he threw 3 1/3 scoreless innings, he walked 1 and struck out 4. Jeff earned his 6Th win of the season and now has a 3.52 ERA.

**David Price, Tampa Bay Rays- David threw 7 1/3 innings, giving up 1 run (1 earned), he walked 1 and struck out 4 and now has a 4.63 ERA with 7 wins.

**Andy Marte, Cleveland Indians- Andy gave the Indians the lead for good again, this time hitting a 3 run shot, his 3rd of the year and it now gives him 15 RBIs. Marte has a 10 game hitting streak going and is now hitting .289.

**Tony Gwynn Jr, San Diego Padres- Tony hit the winning triple, driving in 2 run after a 1-4 evening. Tony is hitting .273 with 13 RBIs.

**Clay Buchholz, Boston Red Sox- Clay threw 8 1/3 innings, giving up 1 run (1 earned), he walked 2 and struck out 9. Clay won his 3rd game and has a 4.38 ERA.

**Craig Counsell, Milwaukee Brewers- Craig went 3-4 at the plate with a triple and score a run. He is hitting .288.

**Ian Kinsler, Texas Rangers- Ian went 2-3 with a walk and he drove in his 74Th run of the year. Kinsler is hitting .250 on the season.

**Garrett Anderson, Atlanta Braves- Garrett went 3-4 with his 12Th Home Run of the season, a 3 run shot, giving him 50 RBIs. Garrett is now hitting .292.

**Colby Rasmus, St. Louis Cardinals- The Young rookie went 2-4 with a 3 run Home Run, giving him 14 Home Runs on the season, driving in 3 runs, giving him 44 RBIs. Colby is now hitting .252.

**Jon Garland, Arizona Diamondbacks- Garland threw 7 shutout innings, giving up 5 hits, walked 1 and struck out 5. Garland now has a 4.29 ERA, winning his 8Th game of the year.

**Barry Zito, San Francisco Giants- Barry threw like a Cy Young award winner when his team needed it the most. 8 1/3 innings, giving up 1 run (1 earned), he walked 1 and struck out 7. Zito now has a 3.94 ERA, he won his 9Th game of the year.

**White Sox Offense- Had no answers, more errors (3) than hits (1). Ozzie Guillen went nuts after the game, and I don't blame him.

**Bobby Parnell, new York Mets- Bobby threw 4 2/3 innings, giving up 8 runs (8 earned), he walked 2 and struck out and now has a 5.81 ERA.

**Carlos Fisher- Carlos gave up 5 runs (5 earned) in 0 innings, he walked 1 and didn't strike anyone out and he now has a 3.94 ERA.

**Adam Everett, Detroit Tigers- Committed 2 errors, giving him 14 on the season.

**Chris Ray- Gave up 3 runs (3 earned) in 1 inning, losing his 2Nd game and now has a 6.10 ERA.

**Luis Ayala, Florida Marlins- Luis threw 1/3 of an inning, giving up 3 runs (3 earned), he walked 1 and didn't strike anyone out. Luis lost his 5Th game and now has a 5.63 ERA.

**Blue Jays Offense- Made things interesting towards the end, but they still could only score 2 runs on 5 hits, they walked 2 times and struck out 9.

**Brian Bixler, Pittsburgh Pirates- Struck out 3 times in 3 at bats.

**Twins Offense- Didn't give Carl Pavano any run support, was shut out on 4 hits, they walked 4 times and struck out 7, leaving 6 men on base.

**Bud Norris, Houston Astros- Bud threw 5 innings, giving up 6 runs (6 earned), he walked 4, struck out 3 and gave up 2 Home Runs. Bud has a 6.61 ERA.

**Rockies Offense- 3 runs on 12 hits, leaving 8 men on base and failing to get that big hit when they needed it.

**Chone Figgins, LA Angels- Figgins was on base with 1 out in the 9Th inning. he was the tying run, Bobby Abreau hit a pop fly ball to Scott Hairiston and Chone thought it would be nice to tag up and he was out instead. I am all for being aggressive, but when your team is down by 1 run and the 3...4...5 hitters are due up, I wouldn't do that, especially with one swing at the bat could win the game for you. Just a dumb decision in my opinion.
